SOL

For the game titled “SOL”, developed in the year 2021, my idea was to create an  top-down, pixel art, simple turn-based battle game, with a primary emphasis on game art and game design. To breathe life into the game’s environment, I incorporated the Modern Interiors sprites by Limezu and the Tile Fantasy Palette by finalbossblues, both of which were sourced from Itch.io. To further enhance the ambiance, I integrated three plugins from the Unity Asset Store: LightRays 2D FX by Andrri, RainmakerFX by Jeff Johnson, and HardLight 2D by Trino. As for the character sprites, I took a hands-on approach and crafted them myself using Aseprite. This also extended to the battle background sprites and the game’s soundtrack, which were both original creations. The core concept of SOL revolves around world exploration, where players will have to traverse through a variety of environments. To this end, I designed an array of settings including a traditional Japanese house, an outdoor landscape, a bustling market, a gymnasium, an expansive Japanese-style room, an art and music room, a medical facility, a spacious living room, and a room with a Halloween theme. In the battle scenes, I hand drew backgrounds that reflected elements from each room. Additionally, I animated the enemy enemy sprites. In summary, SOL combines pixel art, a simple battle gameplay, and a rich tapestry of environments to offer players an original gaming experience.
